The "rotten" (or street committees) and the many organisations in Hasselt organise more than 400 activities in the town centre! Especially in the evenings a wide variety of activities is organised in the streets and on the squares: stage plays, dancing, story telling, music ... When using one of the walking guides, the visitor will certainly get into contact with the ancient tableaus and stories like the Rambling Man, the Thief on the Fence, the Child of the Moorish Woman, the Cottage of Hendrik and Katrien, Stella Maris and Hasselt's Holy Father. The fairy-like lighting of the town will give Hasselt an exceptionally enchanting character. Most of these activities can be attended free of charge.
The inhabitants and the town council of Hasselt will make a special effort to shower all streets, parks and squares with flowers. The Virga Jesse Basilica, the St. Quentin's Cathedral and the Church of the Friars Minor will each be decorated with a floral work of great craftsmanship.
Along the "Green Boulevard", at the most important entrance roads to the town centre, flags will make visitors aware of the festivities in Hasselt. The inhabitants will certainly contribute by decorating the front of their houses with festive flags.
